Illegal Bikes Seized 👮‍♂️

On Sunday 28 September 2025, officers from multiple teams across GMP carried out a targeted operation, Operation Palos, in Manchester city centre. This formed part of a wider effort to disrupt criminal activity linked to the gig economy and anti-social behaviour.

During the operation, officers stopped more than 45 e-bike riders across the city centre. Of those, 19 illegal e-bikes were seized and marked for destruction. Two individuals were arrested; one, a 33-year-old man wanted in connection with theft and bail offences, and another, a 22-year-old man found to be in breach of visa conditions. In addition, six traffic offence reports (TORs) and eight court summonses were issued as part of the day’s enforcement activity

Sgt Jack Lenihan Smith added: “What was particularly encouraging about the operation was the continued positive engagement we had with members of the public throughout the day. Many expressed their appreciation for us addressing what they described as a growing problem that has been impacting their quality of life and sense of safety in the city centre.

"We are committed to maintaining regular high-visibility patrols in the city centre and will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure that those operating within the gig economy do so legally and responsibly. If not, they will be dealt with effectively, and those riding in an anti-social manner will face the full force of the law.”
